From the many phrases that will have been gathered in one section of a syntactical compendium, one can begin to extract certain structures that will present material for sharpening the students' comprehension powers and for building up the "background linguistic experience" that they will bring to any text. The greater the mastery of such micro-structures, the deeper their familiarity with the language will get, and the faster their reading will go.
